Nashville Classical, opening in East Nashville in fall 2013, is founded by Charlie Friedman, a 2011–12 Tennessee Charter School Incubator fellow. As a former Teach For America program director, Friedman has been instrumental in creating models for school turnarounds in some of the nation’s most challenging school districts. Friedman’s work in developing Nashville Classical led the school to be one of only two charters initially approved by the Metro Nashville School Board in 2012, and the only school to be approved by unanimous vote.
In Friedman’s words:
“We are aligned to the priorities that Metro Nashville Public Schools has for children. We are prepared to open. And last of all, we have a research-based and really proven model.”
